Tikasa Akita's

Champions of the Heart Est 1991

Long Coated Akita's are believed to be a throw back to the now extinct dog called the Karafutu dog, which was introduced to the Akita bloodline many years ago. It is perfectly normal to produce a longcoat from two standard coated parents. Longcoats are produced when both parents carry the longcoat gene.

Unfortunatly Longcoated Akita's  are highly undiserirable in the show ring, as the longcoat is classed as a fault So they are sold as pets only, though some breeders do use longcoats in their breeding program to enhance the coat in puppies produced, using a longcoat at stud or breeding from a longcoat bitch doesn't mean you will get longcoat puppies. A longcoat Akita has the same chance of producing longcoat puppies as its litter siblings.

Although in 20 years we have only bred one longcoat we are told they are bigger boned, are eager to please and have a very very kind and loving disposition, making them the perfect family pet. Longcoat Akitas Like standard coated Akitas, come with different coat textures, some have a 'mane' and a few tufts of fur around the hock, others have long fur all over the body.

As we have only bred one longcoat we are unable to supply pictures so we've Kindly been supplied with pictures from longcoat owners.

The three pictures above have been supplied by Christy Bundy in Alabama USA. These two are litter brothers, longcoat is Eddie and standard coat is Trainer.
