American Akitas come in a varitey of colour's with or with out Black mask, but shouldn't have white face unless on a full white. See Pictures Below:-

Brindle:-
Akita's come in two different variations of Brindle, Red Brindle and Sliver Brindle.
Red Brindle is red stripes on a black background, commonely know as tiger striped.
Sliver brindle has silver stripes on a black back ground, there should be no other colour on the dog.
Red:-
Red Akitas should be bright and vivid. A excellent red should have no shading of fawn on neck, tail or back legs. Although most reds have a white undercoat.

White:-
White Akita's should be White with no other colour visable on the dog, although in many cases white's have cream tinging to the ears. Pigment should be good, liver coloured nose is accectable and pink is highly undesirable. Whites are not rare no matter how many times people tell you, a white Akita is no more rare than a fawn. If you can see cream patches on a white, it is not a white but a extreamly diluted red and white pinto.

Black:-
This is actually a fairly rare colour. In most cases there is some shading, or the undercoat is a different colour. In fact most Akitas have some shading of outer or undercoat. At first glance the dog appears black but when you look closely there is shading.
Other Colour's of the Akita inculde, Fawn and Silver, although fawn is a dilution of red and silver is a dilution of black, therefor not described as 'clear well defined colour' set out by the breed standard. Also many Akitas have a black overlay which is a base colour with black tips and/or guard hairs, again not clear well defined.
Pinto:-
Please note Pinto is not a colour it is a coat pattern, For the Akita of one of the primary colours that has white markings on the body, other than on the neck, legs, chest, belly and tail. The white cannot cover more than 2/3 of the body. A very correctly marked pinto would have large evenly placed patches of colour over head and more than one third of the body. (Pictured to the Left).
