About us
Hi, we are Maxine and Hollie Murray, we live in Scunthorpe, North Lincolshire. We have been breeding Akitas since 1991 when the Tikasa Kennel was founded (Affix awarded in 1993). Due to the Akita 'Breed split' we put our breeding program on hold, whilst we decided which way to go, as we bred to produce the genetic's that would produce both black mask's and white face's in the same litter. On our extended family page you can see some of the white faced Akitas we bred along with Lena a brindle with urojiro markings who's litter sister's were exported to Jamaica. We have now decided to go the American way and try to recapture the look that we first fell in love with.
We breed firstly for temperament, all our Akita's have fantastic temeraments. We try to keep our line's as old as possible so the Akitas we produce are tall, well boned dogs with big heads. As time passes it becomes increasingly difficult to find the dogs without washed out colour (but with many hours of research we will find them). Our aim is to breed for the colour on the dog not the colour on the pedigree (Although we may use the odd champion along the way, as long as it's for the colour of the dog's line's). We hear so often that we can no longer get vibrant colour in England our aim is to change that. To quote the words of Carol Davis Tonge (Nikasuko Akitas) years ago 'A dogs pedigree is the history of the past to be used for the future'.
Although we do have kennels our dogs spend 90% of their time in the house and garden, they all mix well together and spend most of the day running around and playing, more than two dogs create a pack enviroment, and there will be times for various reasons, that dogs need to be split. First and formost we class our dogs as family pets that can be bred from and shown. Our aim is to produce the family pet that could win crufts, (wouldn't we all like that!).
